and mindset for university and career success.

About
IB Career Related Programme

The IB Career-related Programme (CP) is designed for post-16 students who are passionate about a specific career pathway or subject area.

CP students complete a Career-related Study (CRS), three DP courses at Standard or Higher Level (SL, HL, or combined), and the CP Core, which includes the Reflective Project, Community Engagement, Personal and Professional Skills, and Language & Cultural Studies.

Students should select courses aligned with their interests, skills, and future goals. The CRS connects to the student’s intended career field, while DP courses complement the CRS. Researching post-secondary requirements, such as mathematics for specific university pathways, is crucial for informed decision-making.

The CRS is a vital part of the CP, offering real-world learning experiences that prepare students for higher education, internships, apprenticeships, or careers in their chosen field. At GIS, students select a CRS from a range of options designed to support their aspirations.

Independent Thinking

At GEMS International School, independent thinking is a cornerstone of the IBCP. Through diverse pathways such as Aviation, STEM, Business, Creative Media and Sport, students engage in hands-on, industry-relevant learning that fosters critical thinking and problem-solving. The programme’s Community Engagement component further develops independence, as students identify real-world needs and create impactful projects, from volunteering globally to advocating for sustainability. Collaborations with international peers and exposure to career-focused opportunities empower students to take ownership of their learning, preparing them to navigate future challenges with confidence and creativity.

University Pathways

Since introducing the IBCP, GEMS International School has proudly seen students enrol in top universities across the USA, UK, Netherlands, UAE, Switzerland, Spain, and beyond. As a newer programme, compared to the IBDP, the IBCP is gaining increasing recognition from universities worldwide. At GIS, our dedicated team plays an active role in this progress, working alongside the IB to expand university acceptance and awareness of the programme’s unique value. By combining academic rigour with career-related learning, the IBCP equips students with the skills and qualifications needed to succeed in diverse higher education pathways.

Global Engagement

At GEMS International School, global engagement is at the heart of our mission. Through partnerships with international Career-Related Subject Pathways, our students collaborate with peers worldwide on projects promoting sustainability and leadership. A key element of the IBCP at GIS is Community Engagement, where students identify and address local or global community needs. From volunteering in Sri Lanka, Barcelona and India to advocating for meaningful change, our students take initiative to create impactful projects that foster a sense of responsibility and global citizenship.

Cultural Awareness

Cultural awareness is deeply embedded in the IBCP at GEMS International School. A key element of the core subject, Personal and Professional Skills, is the unit on Intercultural Understanding, where students explore cultural norms, languages and histories from around the globe. This learning is especially meaningful in a school like ours, which celebrates a rich diversity of more than 100 nationalities. By delving into the intricacies of different cultures, students develop empathy, global-mindedness, and the ability to navigate and respect the complexities of our interconnected world - essential skills for thriving in today’s diverse environments.

What I can see is that they are not worried about achieving a number on a test. It’s more about if I did not get the answer, how can I work on that area.

The IB Curriculum helps my children to be more flexible in changing times. They learn how to find information, to analyse, to research, preparing them for the future.

Ms. Svetlana

It was no doubt from my side that they were going to an IB school I strongly believe that their independence and their critical thinking skills are preparing them really well.

Ms. Janne

We picked IB because we think that the level of education fits well with that in the Netherlands, so when we go back, it’s a smooth transition.
